Principal Dr. Dalia Coronel
Dr. Dalia Coronel is the proud Principal of Billy Mitchell Elementary School, where she leads with a clear vision of academic excellence, equity, and a strong sense of belonging for every student. She believes that a school should be more than a place of learning—it should be a safe, inspiring environment where every child feels respected, encouraged, and empowered to achieve their highest potential. Her leadership is grounded in the belief that every child deserves to feel valued, respected, and empowered to achieve their fullest potential.
A first-generation Latina and graduate of LAUSD public schools in South Central Los Angeles, Dr. Coronel’s personal story is a testament to perseverance, hard work, and the transformative power of education. She earned degrees in English and Education from California State University, Los Angeles, followed by a doctorate in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California. Her academic background and life experiences allow her to connect authentically with students and families, fostering relationships built on trust, empathy, and shared goals for success.
With 18 years of dedicated service in education, Dr. Coronel has seen firsthand the impact that strong, compassionate leadership can have on a school community. She is passionate about equipping students with not only academic skills, but also the confidence, resilience, and curiosity they need to thrive in an ever-changing world. Under her leadership, Billy Mitchell Elementary continues to grow as a place where students are heard, families are welcomed, and learning is celebrated every day.

Assistant Principal Fred Master
Mr. Fred Master is the Assistant Principal at Billy Mitchell Elementary School. Before becoming assistant principal, Mr. Master served as an ELA teacher at both Jane Addams and Will Rogers Middle Schools for eight years. Before joining the Lawndale Elementary School District, Mr. Master taught Reading and Writing at Edison Middle School in Champaign, IL, for two years. Mr. Master holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with a minor in Secondary Education from the University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign. He earned his Master of Arts in Educational Administration from California State University–Long Beach, where his research focused on equity and accessibility in education. Mr. Master has utilized his studies in developing and implementing strong PBIS principles and structures in his previous role as PBIS Tier 1 Coordinator. Mr. Master is deeply committed to ensuring each student achieves the highest level of learning while also fostering a supportive and safe environment for both students and school staff. He is excited to continue to grow and develop connections between our school and our community to create a multi-layered system of support for our students. Outside of school, Mr. Master enjoys spending time with his wife and two cats, while also being an avid golfer and a passionate supporter of Chicago sports teams and his beloved Fighting Illini (“I-L-L!”).
